
Below is an excerpt from Robert Levering's address to attendees of the gala awards ceremony honoring the 25 World’s Best Multinational Workplaces at the New York Stock Exchange on October 27, 2011.
When we reserved this space a couple of months ago, little did we imagine that there would be so many other people who would want to occupy Wall Street. But unlike the folks who are camping out in Zuccotti Park a few blocks from here, we are actually occupying Wall Street. We’re inside the New York Stock Exchange, in what is indisputably the most prominent symbol of corporate capitalism in the world – a building that some of those people might refer to as the “belly of the beast.”
